About Ruby Red

Dedicated to making exceptional skin care gorgeously simple, we hand make all our products in our workshop in North London using only the very best organic vegetable and essential oils. That’s how we create our trademark rich Ruby Red aromas, making sure that you get all the goodness by not heating any of the ingredients. Just like eating raw vegetables, only much more fun.

When it comes to keeping skin kissably smooth and seriously soft, we believe that nature knows best. That’s why everything you’ll ever find in Ruby Red packaging is guaranteed gorgeously organic and natural.

The Ruby Red story
It all started when we gave up our proper jobs and armed with just a change of clothes and a guide book, went travelling around south east Asia to the parts that tourists never normally experience. In between chatting to Tibetan Monks and riding elephants we discovered cultures where beauty was all about natural ingredients and traditional techniques. Resulting in great looking skin.

Back in Blighty, armed with our experience in fragrances and cosmetics, we began mixing our own natural beauty products. Friends and family loved the results, but we thought they were probably just being nice. So we took our natural products to Portobello Market and sold out within hours. That’s when we knew we were onto a good thing. We set up our own workshop in North London and it wasn’t long before Ruby Red caught the interest of hip eco-boutiques in London and we released our products into the big, wide world. Today Ruby Red can be found in selected high street retailers nationwide and prestigious department stores in London. Best of all, we haven’t changed any of our winning formulations, so the products you buy today are still lovingly handmade by us in our  workshop, using fantastic organic ingredients.

Why Ruby Red? We’re named after the co-founder; a real life Mrs Ruby with a penchant for red coloured lipstick….

What we believe in

We like to keep things pure and simple

We specialise in hand making richly aromatic, gorgeously organic, 100% vegetarian products for bath and body packed with fresh, natural ingredients and containing no artificial colours, parabens or other synthetic preservatives, petroleum based ingredients, animal fats or harsh chemicals. That’s why we have some of the shortest ingredient lists ever. Go on, check them out for yourself, they’re teeny!

Each and every one of our products is made by us from our workshop in North London. Everything is mixed, blended, filled, wrapped and labelled lovingly with our own fair hands. We don’t use cost-cutting manufacturing cheats such as artificial colours or synthetic fragrances and preservatives so you can be sure your product has left the workshop without having heard the word “chemical”.

We make sure that our little bundles of loveliness are wrapped up snug in biodegradable and recyclable packaging and sent off into the world as pure as possible. What happens to them next is entirely up to you!

Raw ingredients

The raw ingredients we use are most nutritious for the body and skin when they’re fresh and unprocessed because that’s when they contain the most vitamins, minerals and enzymes. That’s why we don’t heat any of our ingredients, to keep them jam-packed with nutrients and good stuff, creating the purest products possible.

Chemicals? No way!

At Ruby Red we’ve never thought that chemicals make for a good look. That means we promise our products contain strictly no synthetic fragrances, no artificial colours and certainly no petroleum-based or animal-derived nasties – just 100% natural goodness for your skin.

Using any synthetics would mean compromising the benefits to your body. We’d certainly save a few bob if we preserved a product within an inch of its life and stored the goods in a big warehouse, but we think you and your skin deserve better.

At last, an ingredient list which isn’t as long as your arm

Never, ever tested on animals

Stopping all animal testing is something Ruby Red cares passionately about. We only ever use vegetarian ingredients and will only test our cosmetics on friendly people – never on animals.

We are firmly committed to our policy against animal testing and we will therefore never buy ingredients from any supplier that tests any of its materials on animals for any purpose.

And because we only use natural products, they have all been tested for centuries by people like you.

Purely ethical

Ruby Red fights poverty through trade by supporting small producers around the world who supply us with lovely, natural ingredients. We get wonderful products at a fair price; the communities we support get a sustained source of income to invest in their future.

We buy from co-operatives wherever possible to ensure a fair deal for the local workers and their community. Our shea butter is ethically sourced from a womens’ co-operative in Western Ghana. Paid a fair price for their produce, they have been able to pay for organic certification and their first bit of nifty machinery – a hand mill to crush the dried nuts.

Our lovely looking gift boxes are hand crafted from recycled waste paper by a pioneering co-operative in Kathmandu. Over the past few years they have helped to build 3 schools and funded scholarships for more than 125 girls.

Planet positive
At Ruby Red, we believe in running our business in the most environmentally friendly manner possible. Look closely at our gorgeous packaging and you won’t find any plastic – just recyclable or biodegradeable containers, all beautifully wrapped with a flourish in paper and raffia, from sustainable material.

Our swing tickets and product labels are all printed on paper from forests that have been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council. And we use glass, aluminium and cardboard for our product containers, all of which are easily recycled.
